Utopia CEO, Jabran Niaz, Speaks on
Pakistan's Textile Sector
in CxO Magazine
In a recent feature in CxO Magazine, our Chief Executive Officer Jabran Niaz shed light on the pivotal challenges and prospects of Pakistan’s textile industry. Jabran Niaz underscores that Pakistan’s reliance on cotton as its primary raw material has made its growth inconsistent, especially with the global shift towards cost-effective polyester-based textiles. To attain a competitive edge, he stresses the importance of building an ecosystem for polyester textiles in Pakistan. This includes local manufacturing of polyester yarn, dyes, chemicals, and textile machinery, along with reduced custom duty on raw material imports.
Utopia Industries takes pride in a diverse export range, from bedding products to unique items like non-stick cookware and personal care products, challenging the misconception that only China can manufacture at low costs. Reflecting on challenges, Jabran Niaz cites the lack of awareness about supportive government schemes, such as the Pakistan Customs Export Facilitation Scheme and the State Bank of Pakistan’s financial programs, as initial growth inhibitors. He also emphasized the need to diversify energy resources and plan for water supply challenges. Jabran Niaz concludes that despite competition from regional giants like China and India, Pakistan’s comparative advantages in land, construction and labor costs can pave the way for export success with the right approach.
